Advocacy is provided on behalf of clients who have a significant legal problem and aren’t able to advocate on their own. This is particularly important for people who find it impossible to use with the legal system because they

  • are from an indigenous background
  • have mental illness, brain injury or intellectual disability
  • are elderly and frail
  • are young people
  • are from a non-English speaking background.

Community legal education is about providing information about the law. The goal is to help people understand how the legal system works and how legal problems can be resolved. This can help empower people to know their legal rights in a variety of legal areas. Legal education can also provide guidance so that minor disputes don’t become legal problems.

Community legal education can help community support workers (who may be contacted by people with legal problems) find out how to best support or refer clients.

MNCLC provides free legal information to community groups in most areas of law that we provide legal advice in. If you would like to arrange for us to visit your group, please contact us on 6580 2111.
